Alfred Pfennig featured in the (photo), Homeopath, Osteopath, was awarded the GOLD MEDAL at the 'Concours Lépine' for the design of the Head Balance mouth exerciser, at the Salon International de L'invention in PARIS 2005. The 'Head Balance' mouth exerciser is an alternative (Natural Remedy) for sufferers of:

• Migraines • Headaches • Dizziness • Vertigo • Snoring • Grinding of the teeth (bruxism) • Tinnitus (buzzing) in the ears • Muscle tension in the neck, shoulders and back areas. In addition, the improved circulation of blood flow in the facial muscles resulting from the regular jaw's exercise helps to firm up the skin and slow the formation of facial wrinkles.

Eliminate your pain by rebalancing and exercising your jaw muscles with Head-Balance, used to treat the temporal-mandibular joint (articulation). Head-Balance is unique and was developed by experienced therapists. Since 2005 it was tested on hundreds of people over a period of 3 years with excellent results. Now used by thousands of sufferers around the world.

Used and recommended by health professionals and therapists, the device is user-friendly and at the same time extremely efficient being a natural remedy to prevent and treat disequilibrium of the mandibular system which is frequently the cause of migraines, headaches, snoring, grinding of the teeth (bruxism), buzzing in the ear, vertigo, tendinitis and muscular tensions in the neck, shoulders and back. This disequilibrium of the temporo-mandibular articulation can further provoke muscular tension in all parts of the body, since all the muscles of the body are linked and work together in harmony. Scientific studies have demonstrated that head and neck pains are directly interrelated; the Head Balance compensates and reduces these inconveniences.

You may think it is simply a piece of metal that you have to keep bitting on, and that chewing a gum all day is practically the same process but better than chewing a piece of metal, on the contrary, it won’t, for gum has no resistance nor tension, and being soft will only cause more anguish and dysfunctions, as you keep on chewing it mostly on the one side of your mouth. The apparatus is in spring steel with two elastomeric tips (food grade), the shape of which has been designed so that the incisors and the canines are positioned correctly. Thus, pressure is re-established over the entire jaw which means that it be used by anybody, whether young or old or equipped with a dental prosthesis. Owing to its well-centred position, which creates a certain resistance, the muscles on the left and the right work simultaneously.

To put it simply in plain English, Hopping on one leg instead of walking on two, would cause serious damage to your spine, ligaments and muscles – It is like having a wheel alignment so your car runs smoothly rather than dance on the road… The purpose of a wheel alignment and adjustments is to reduce tire wear, and to ensure that the vehicle travel is straight and true (without "pulling" to one side). Similarly, because the majority of people tend to chew food more on the one side rather than the other, the jaw gets imbalanced, causing dysfunction of the mandibular system. The Head Balance mouth exerciser simply realigns and rebalances your jaw, hence smooth function and no pain, what a relief!  Just like your car would 'after realignment' cruise smoothly on the road. Hope this paragon clarifies the basic function of this amazing mouth exerciser.

General application: Complete the oral exercises morning and evening. In a seated position, hold the apparatus tip with your front teeth, placing the incisors behind the raised section of the apparatus. First with the head straight forward, chew slowly 10 to 15 times, opening (maximum of 1 to 1.5 cm) and closing the mouth without crushing the apparatus. Then with the head turned slightly to the left 10 to 15 times, and again 10 to 15 times with the head turned slightly to the right this time. Repeat the exercise 3 times pausing for one minute between each series of exercises. 8 weeks are needed to balance everything. For upkeep, complete the exercises one week a month.

For acute pain: Chew slowly 15 to 20 times with the head facing forward, then the same amount of number with the head turned to the left, and then again to the right. Pause for a minute or two between each series of exercises. This set of exercises can be repeated up to 3 times. The migraine generally eases within a few minutes and the pain gradually disappears completely.

For prevention: The patient should do the exercises regularly once or twice in the morning and evening, and the attacks will then become less severe, the intervals between them will lengthen and they will generally disappear completely.

These exercises stimulate the metabolism around the jaw/mandibular joint, face, head, neck, throat, shoulders and back. They relax the muscles and exercise them on both left and right due to the central position of the mouth exerciser. After some time the balance of the two mandibular joints is restored and physical well-being is regained. During this period the teeth and occlusion should be checked by a dentist at regular intervals (about every 2 months).

Mandibular joint blockage or misalignment often causes muscle tension or irritates the areas listed above. This leads to spinal problems or blockages in the throat/chest region which can trigger neuralgia, vertigo, migraine or nausea due to compression of the nerves and blood vessels.

Tinnitus is often due to irritation of the mandibular joint on the inner ear or by tension imbalance or irritation of the tensor tympani and stapedius muscles. These exercises will not cure tinnitus caused by damage to the inner ear (e.g. atrophy of the hair cells, hearing loss), so that the cause should first be discussed with a specialist.

Grinding of the teeth: Use the Head-Balance exerciser for two (1-minute) sessions at bedtime to relax the muscles of the throat and jaw. Tension in these muscles is one of the main causes of nocturnal grinding of the teeth.

Precautions: Take care if teeth are loose or decayed or prosthesis is worn. If the problems persist, consult your therapist. The Head-Balance’s actions on the temporomandibular joint and on the dynamic work of muscles, which relax and balance, are of great interest to dentists when used with night guards. The exercises are not restrictive because they only take a short time. Good jaw balance enables simple and precise work.
